“Dog training app Woofz released breed-tailored Spotify playlists, helping owners walk to their dog’s beat”
NICOSIA, Cypress—It’s autumn when the weather gets crispy and cold — perfect for that city stroll or hike in the woods. Dog training app Woofz has created Spotify playlists to match your breed and mood, from a quick 20-minute walk around the block to a two-hour trek to your favorite doggy destination.
Developed with breed advice from dog experts and trainers, the playlists set the pace, from light walks with smaller breeds to energetic exercise with medium and larger breeds, and even a two-hour list for humans with high-energy pups.
Woofz has curated five playlists:
- Small breeds: 30 minutes of acoustic melodies, soft indie, and feel-good classics.
- Medium breeds: 45 minutes of indie tracks, light electronic, and upbeat pop.
- Large breeds: One hour of fast-paced pop, rock, hip-hop, and electronic tracks.
- High-energy breeds: Two hours of rhythmic classic rock, deep house, and instrumental tracks.
- Low-energy breeds: 20 minutes soothing jazz, soft classical, lo-fi beats, and acoustic sounds.
Artists on the “Soft Sounds for Small Breeds” playlist include Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead, Lady Gaga, The Walters, Tyko, the girl in red and Mitski. The “Bounding Beast for Big Breeds” list features rhythmic, deep beats from artists like Billie Eilish, Guns’N’Roses, Avicii and 50 Cent, among others. For lower energy dogs, there’s a more mellow mix of “gentle grooves” including selections from Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra and Chopin.
There’s a serious side to keeping up an exercise routine when the weather gets cold, Woofz said in a press release: “Each playlist has been carefully designed, with input from dog health experts, to help owners match their walking pace and distance to their pet’s needs. While every dog benefits from daily walks, recommended intensity differs drastically between breeds, with excessive or limited exercise linked to various health conditions. Too little activity can lead to issues such as obesity, heart disease, and muscle loss, while too much can cause bone damage, muscle strain, and overheating. Improper exercise can also trigger stress, anxiety, and behavioral issues such as excessive chewing or barking.”
“While these playlists might seem playful, they actually tackle a real issue in pet care. Getting the pace and duration of your walks wrong can have serious consequences for your pet. At best, you risk causing them distress. At worst, it can lead to life-threatening health risks. And we can’t always rely on our fur babies to tell us once they’ve had enough — some blindly follow our lead, and others will keep running no matter what. However, these playlists will help to ensure pet parents are walking to the right rhythm for their dog’s breed,” Natalia Shahmetova, CEO of Woofz, added.
