NEW YORK, N.Y. — The American Kennel Club, the world’s largest nonprofit dog registry, announced its list of Most Popular Dog Names for 2025.

“Choosing a pet’s name is such a fun and important part of the process when acquiring a dog,” said AKC President and CEO Gina M. DiNardo. “People put a great deal of effort into picking a name that perfectly fits their pet and often spend a lot of time making that decision.”

The Top 10 Girl Names are:

1. Luna
2. Bella
3. Daisy
4. Lucy
5. Ruby
6. Willow
7. Maggie
8. Penny
9. Nova
10. Sadie

The Top Boy Names are:

1. Max
2. Hank
3. Teddy
4. Cooper
5. Gus
6. Bear
7. Maverick
8. Charlie
9. Finn

According to the AKC, there was a shakeup in spots on the Boys side, with Max regaining the Number One slot after knocking Milo out of first place this year. Hank went all the way from 35^th to second place, while Cooper rose one spot to fourth, and Teddy held steady from last year at third.

In the Girls category, the top four repeated their positions from last year, with Ruby coming up from 16^th last year, to round out the Top Five.
